This is my latest series which I completed for a coastal themed Summer exhibition in Bristol (see News). My interest in seaweed has been gradually expanded over the last 12 months, where I have been amazed at the diversity and importance of these botanical forms. They have had a huge impact on the innovation and substitution of plastic packaging, skin & hair care, health supplements and coastal erosion management.
The paintings capture the structurally stunning and fabulous flowing forms of 4 different types of Sea Kelp. Each kelp painting displaying a unique form and character, using the rich colour palettes of ochre, rich yellow, brown and warm green. The layers within the blue background are created using a combination of collage, stencilling, mark making and gold line work
